Review on "A Walk to Remember".

Image
For the first time ever I've come across a novel and a movie adaptation of it, which are equally good. It has become really difficult for me to select one over the other. Now I guess it's enough of me praising these works of fiction and let me state you the reasons why I love both the works.            A Walk to Remember is a novel by American writer Nicholas Sparks, released in October 1999. The novel, set in 1958–1959 in Beaufort, North Carolina, is a story of two teenagers who fall in love with each other despite the disparity of their personalities. A Walk to Remember is adapted in the film of the same name, becoming Sparks' second novel adapted to the big screen after Message in a Bottle in 1999. Sparks sold the film rights to Warner Bros. in December 1998, months before the publication of the novel. The movie was directed by Adam Shankman and produced by Denise DiNovi and Hunt Lowry for Warner Bros.; the film premiered on...

Myth and archetype and how they still affect us.

Image
Myth come from Greek word Mythos which means "words" or more significantly "story", but it's a special kind of story that has two purposes that is to carry significance and staying power. Archetype on other hand comes from Myths or history that is archetypes are action, characters, objects carrying a significant meaning to it. Like using Sita's example as ideal wife, in another situations using her as good example of a feminist woman, who prayers to earth goddess to swallow her, rather then going with her husband. Now coming back to the topic of the topic of how these archetypes are still affect our society. My answer to this, is people use these myth and archetype by distorting it and presenting the part which benefits them to prove their point mostly to show how knowledgeable they are and secondly to maintain power over the "other". Indian literature is ancient and so is vast, It has talked about different acpects of life and different...

Let's fight this "Everyday Sexism".

Image
Everyday Sexism is a wide topic which is been discuss every since  the feminist movement has began. Initially women it were the ones who cried about how they face sexism on daily bases, but in past decade we can see rise in men movement, which unlike feminist movement is very subtle.          Before moving further with this paper I would like my readers to understand some key terms which will then help us to come to a proper conclusion. Firstly the term Feminist, it's a range of social movements, political movements, and ideologies that aim to define, establish, and achieve the political, economic, personal, and social equality of the sexes. Feminist theory, which emerged from feminist movements, aims to understand the nature of gender inequality by examining women's social roles and lived experience; it has developed theories in a variety of disciplines in order to respond to issues concerning gender. Secondly the Men's Right ...

How Can Goa fight its Air Pollution?

Image
US base study has found out that Goans are losing 1.5 years of their life expectancy due to poor air quality in the state. According to WHO standard air quality is 10 micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m3) for fine particulate matter (PM2.5). The study also showed that there has been 9.3 per cent increase in particulate pollution in the state from 1998 to 2016 and by 2016 average life expectancy had increased to 1.6 years.   The main causes leading to such harsh environmental crisis are air pollutants emanate from construction and demolition actives, secondly vehicle emission and burning of waste in open.            It is not a new and unique problem, many countries like UK, US and China in past has faced it. It is a high time for India, and we should learn a lesson from these countries and should start working towa...

Understanding Manga and Exploring Unorthodox Nature of Japan through Buddha.

Image
Manga is comic originated in Japan, which is quite different from any other western comic. This paper aims to explore the origin of the term ‘Manga’; some of its essential components. Lastly we’ll study what gives Japanese literature to show such explicit imageries and to explain all the above points I will be using Osamu Tezuka’s Buddha series (1972-83).           Let’s start by understanding the meaning of Manga. Although it is difficult to identify the exact date when manga was first created, many credit the beginning of sequential art in Japan with the creation of scrolls of illustrations by Buddhist monks in the twelfth century. The most famous example of this art is the Choju Giga, or “animal scrolls” created by a monk known as Bishop Toba.                     Artist Hokusai Katsuhi...

Cultural Jargun...

Image
In this paper I will be discussing how different cultures depict Snakes. How this connotations attached to it shows it as a god in culture and how it is believed to be satanic in other.             Starting with Naga; in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, the nāga is divine, semi-divine deity, or a semi-divine race of half-human half-serpent beings that reside in the netherworld (Patala) and can occasionally take human form. They are principally depicted in three forms: wholly human with snakes on the heads and necks; common serpents, or as half-human half-snake beings. A female naga is a nagini . Nagaraja is seen as the king of nāgas and nāginis. They are common and hold cultural significance in the mythological traditions of many South Asian and Southeast Asian cultures.           Similarly we have Bakunawa who is a serpent-l...

Pablo Neruda, As young poet.

Image
Here I am presenting a paper on critical work on select poems by Pablo Neruda, where I have selected two poems from Neruda’s first collection of poetry; “Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair”. Though this work I will try to put forward my views on Neruda’s poems, and will also work on the themes and the stylistic feature used by Neruda in constructing these poems. Finally I will also try to study the background of the poem and the poet, so that by the end of this work one can create or have an opinion on Neruda’s poetry.   Introduction:  Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto born on 12 July 1904 and died on 23 September 1973 is better known by his pen name Pablo Neruda was a Chilean poet-diplomat and politician. Neruda became known as a poet when he was 10 years old, and wrote in a variety of styles, including surrealist poems, historical epics, overtly political manifestos, a prose autobiography, and passionate love poems such as the ones in his collection Twe...
