Poetry in the age of Instagram

Literature is a body of written works. The name has traditionally been applied to those imaginative works of poetry and prose distinguished by the intentions of their authors and the perceived aesthetic excellence of their execution.

The purest literacy form is the lyrical poem, and after it comes elegiac, epic, dramatic, narrative, and expository verse. Most theories of literacy criticism base themselves on n analysis of poetry because the aesthetic problems of literature are there presented in their simplest and purest form.

Writing this paper make me feel very special as through this paper I would like to introduce my readers to one of the best Insta-Poet, who has a beautiful ability to write generation together. He is fine poet who likes to put himself in the category of metaphysical poets and likes to call himself Artist in Asylum, even through his real name is not known till now, but is famous by his pen name Shaayan Mir.

The name Shyaan means Intelligent, and indeed he is an intelligent poet. As his works are partially cantered to theme of love and partially to socio-economic religious issues, but both this theme are presented in such a ‘Sufistis’ manner that no matter how ugly or bizzard or indigestible reality might sound, Shaayan is able to present it to his reader in the most befitted manner just like a mirror which is never afraid to show us our faults.

Shaayan Mir’s poetic collection consists of work having theme of terrible tiny tales. Mir is a writer for whom word limit, style of writing or language can never be a barrier to express this though. His page consist of poem written in English, Kashmiri and Urdu also his work are so up to the mark that even if one tries to translate it, it won’t lose its meaning.

Talking about the love poem, unlike many other poets(who prefer to describe their beloved’s physical beauty or talk about how world is not letting them be together or how desperate they are for their love) Shayaan focuses on the time when they were together, time when she won’t be there anymore, and how love has help him to grow.

Areas of Poetry. Unlike others I won’t be comparing my subject to any other previous writers. Firstly because I personally find comparing two things as one of the most degrading job, because someone or the other is better than the one and one is better than the others. Secondly, cause I’m trying to use T. S. Eliot’s, Theory of Impersonal, to judge the poems of Shayaan Mir.
As mentioned previously the works of this write are so beautiful, which even after the translation has the power to pleases the sense of its readers. Here’s an example of one such work.

The truth is I never felt attracted
To her or to anyone that came into my life after you.
They were so goddamn amazing,
Some felt look first rain in monsoon, while some were bonfire
in December, & as some made my next peg, others kept me sober.
But maybe, They saw in me what I saw in you,
& maybe I never saw i n them what you never saw in me.

Translation Hakikat to ye hai ke tumhare
jane ke bad na wa , na koi aur
hamain dilkash laga.
Khuda kasam itne hassen thae wo,
kuch toe barsat  ke pahli barish  jaise,
toe  kuch sard me LO ki tarha ,
toe  kitno ne hamare  liye  Saki ke jam
tayar  kiye, toe kitno ne hamen
muttaki  rakha.
Par  shayad  unhune  mujh main
wo  dekha  jo  maine  tum  mein  dekha tha
aur shayad  mainne unmein wo na dekha
jo tum  ne mujh main na dekha tha.

Also by taking Shayaan Mir as a representative of Instagram Poets, one can say unlike previous poets our new generation poets don’t limit themselves to writing in particular style but are enthusiastic to try out different themes, style, forms and genres of poetry. My subject Shayaan Mir’s collection consist of poem written free verse, hymn, elegy, limerick, Terza Rima, lyrical, Eclogue, Urdu Shayari, a separate collection of Metaphysical poems, etc.

Conclusion
After reading the Instagram poets or any other poets of this age and time, one thing I can say for sure that is the ways of writing has charged over time but the feeling, the thought process and emotions are still true and universal.
Current writers have come up with a way of short storytelling poetry, which till date has not achieve a proper title of itself, but surely in near future will have a genre of its own. The beginning of this style of writing has its roots in the time of 20th century, when poets like Ezra Pound, Amy Lowell and Carl Sandburg began writing Imagist poems.
The whole purpose or the reason for rise of such writing is the love for reading, and lack of time. Unlike Victorian Era people don't have much time to sit and read, rather the only time they have in their hands is in between the classes, in between the shifts, while waiting at the bus stop etc, which is very little time. Hence creative works like Terribly Tiny Tales or short prose poetry are able to get the attention they deserve; and poets like Shayaan Mir, and the Haiku writers and flash fictions, have achieve a place in the field of writing.
